English Language Arts Tutoring (Grades 4–12)
A former language arts teacher and longtime tutor, I offer private instruction to students wishing to improve their writing, critical reading, vocabulary knowledge, and grammar. I can provide support for students who need academic help or enrichment for those who would like an extra challenge beyond what is offered in the classroom.
Admissions Essay Consultation
I possess a decade of experience supporting high school seniors and prospective graduate students in preparing their essays for admission. I specialize in helping students master the tricky blend of storytelling and exposition required to craft a compelling personal statement. Whether a student needs help with brainstorming, research, making a writing plan, conquering writer’s block, or revision, I can provide support and feedback at every stage of the writing process. Past students have gotten into schools like Stanford, UC Berkeley, Pomona, Barnard, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, USC, and UCLA. Note: My admissions essay tutoring services are seasonal, and spots are limited each fall. Please contact me well in advance of September to inquire about availability.
Copyediting and Proofreading
I provide freelance copyediting and proofreading services to authors en route to publication. I specialize in poetry and other literary titles but am also experienced in editing picture books and academic textbooks.
Guest Speaking, Classroom Visits, and Community Writing Workshops
One of my favorite things in the world is leading poetry workshops for schools, churches, and other community groups. My teaching style is hands-on, process-forward, low stakes, and inclusive of all experience levels. Past workshops have focused on topics such as sensory description, juxtaposition, figurative language, revision, and Asian American heritage and identity. I’ve also led professional development training for teachers and have spoken to students about careers in editing and starting a literary magazine. I’m always available to speak about my chapbook, Periodicity, as well! Have an idea that you don’t see here? Please reach out. I’d love to work with you to customize something for your group.
